Defending world champion Iúri Leitão won silver today in the omnium at the Paris2024 Olympic Games, giving Portuguese track cycling its first medal.
In the Olympic men’s track cycling debut for Portugal, Iúri Leitão finished the omnium with 153 points, behind Frenchman Benjamin Thomas (164) and ahead of Belgian Fábio van den Bossche (131), giving the Portuguese Mission its second medal in Paris2024, after judoka Patrícia Sampaio’s bronze in the -78 kg.
The 26-year-old from Viana do Castelo won Portugal’s first medal on the track and the second in the history of Portuguese cycling at the Olympic Games, after Sérgio Paulinho came second in the cross-country race in Athens2004.
