Cyclists Iúri Leitão and Rui Oliveira won the gold medal in Madison at Paris2024, the sixth Olympic title for Portuguese sport, after the five in athletics, in the 32nd Portuguese podium ever.
In the Portuguese debut in men’s track events, Iúri Leitão and Rui Oliveira join Carlos Lopes, Rosa Mota, Fernanda Ribeiro, Nélson Évora and Pedro Pichardo, all Olympic champions in athletics.
After Iúri Leitão’s silver medal in the omnium, the Portuguese duo scored 55 points in the 200 laps of the Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines Velodrome track, eight more than Italy, with Simone Consonni and Elia Viviani, in second place, while Denmark, with Niklas Larsen and Michael Moerkoev, finished in third place with 41.
